ASBESTOS INSPECTION
In 2019, the Fargo Diocese contacted Ackerman-Estvold to discuss their plan to demolish two older school buildings at the St. Ann’s Mission School of Belcourt property. Weathermen, Inc. of Minot performed a pre-demolition inspection of the facilities in 2017. One of the structures, Madonna Hall, was found to have asbestos-containing vinyl tile and stairway cladding. Ackerman-Estvold’s asbestos inspector, Kevin Ploof, reviewed the findings and conducted a verification inspection of the tile quantities listed for a more accurate bid process. Significantly more of the identified asbestos-containing tiles were noted during the reinspection. This discrepancy may have been due to carpeting over some tile locations or other issues. Ackerman-Estvold prepared the inspection report and solicited bids from seven abatement contractors. Three responsive bids were received, and the work was awarded to Safetech, Inc. of Billings, MT. The work was completed on time and on budget. Ackerman-Estvold performed a post abatement inspection and worked with the contractor to ensure all project-related paperwork was filed with the ND Department of Environmental Quality and the Diocese.
