Northeast Bypass
The Minot Northeast Bypass is a component of a larger project that will connect US Highway 83 North, north of Minot, to US Highway 2 East, east of Minot. The larger project consists of four projects: the 55th Street Grade Separation over the BNSF rail tracks, the railroad spur track installation from Gavin Yard to the Port of North Dakota Intermodal Facility, intersection improvements at 55th Street and US Highway 2, and the grading and paving of the Northeast Bypass.
The Northeast Bypass will provide truck access to the agriculturally-related and industrial development expanding rapidly on Minot's eastern edge. The Northeast Bypass route will also provide an improved transportation link between US Highway 2 East and the Minot International Airport located on Minot's north side, and Minot Air Force Base.
Based on projected growth in traffic volumes of the industrial development in the area, the volume of truck traffic anticipated and projected traffic speeds, this project will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Northeast Bypass. The route will intersect both County Road 19 and County Road 12 where intersection lighting, turn lanes, signing, and changes in traffic control will be included.
